Kristen J. Koltun, PhD

Kristen Koltun is an Assistant Professor of Sports Medicine and Nutrition at the Neuromuscular Research Laboratory and Warrior Human Performance Center at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Koltun completed her PhD in Kinesiology from Penn State University and her Master's in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, both specializing in Exercise Physiology. As a member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) she is the past recipient of several awards including the Gail E. Butterfield Nutrition Travel Award (ACSM), Young Investigator Award (Bone Interest Group-ACSM), NASA Space Physiology Research Grant (ACSM), and Young Investigator Travel Award (ASBMR). Additionally, she is a Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-EP) and Certified Bone Densitometry Technologist (ISCD-CBDT). Dr. Koltun's research projects have been supported by the Department of Defense and primarily focus on women's health, sex-differences in the effects of energy deficiency on metabolism and reproductive function, and physiological factors underlying bone adaptation to arduous physical training in exercising and military populations.
